About the VCCS-EDLT 

The VCCS-EDLT Workgroup was comprised of distance learning professionals from across the state who came together in March 2022 to develop a collection of tools that could support colleges seeking an external review of their fully online degree programs, provide a system-wide approach to ensuring quality in online programming, and offer resources to institutional leaders as they work to ensure their distance learning students have the same opportunities and support as their face-to-face students. Working with faculty members from across the system and funding provided by the Online Virginia Network, the workgroup developed the VCCS-EDLT (excellence in distance learning toolkit). 

After a three-year development period, the first external program reviews were conducted in July 2025, and the members of the workgroup officially moved into the role of a steering committee responsible for oversight and support of the program.
